Office Policies

Your First Visit

Your first visit to our office will begin with an assessment of what YOU desire from orthodontic treatment and if there are any specific concerns from your dentist. Dr. Hertzberg will evaluate you or your child's orthodontic needs and the ideal time to initiate correction. In some cases, active orthodontic treatment will not yet be necessary at this time. A discussion will follow to ensure that you fully understand all aspects of the problems and solutions. We always recommend that both parents attend their child's first visit to our office if at all possible. Dr. Hertzberg wants to make sure that everybody knows and understands why treatment is necessary.


If this is the proper time to address the orthodontic problem, a careful explanation of exactly what type of treatment is needed, will be given. Every case in unique and there are many different ways to solve different problems. Dr. Hertzberg wants to make sure to use the best, most efficient way to treat each patient.


Consultation

After this has been done, our treatment coordinator will sit down and thoroughly discuss all payments options, any insurance benefits and help schedule all appointments needed to start treatment.


Regular Appointments

At the start and end of active treatment, longer appointments are needed to place or remove the braces. During the school year, longer appointments are scheduled at less popular times of the day, usually before 3 PM. In this way we are able to accommodate the greatest number of patients during the popular after school times while still running on time. By having longer appointments during school or work hours, you will be able to have the vast majority of your orthodontic appointments after school or work.


There is a wide range for the regular adjustments, ranging from 3-12 weeks in between, that are about 20 minutes in length. This is completely dependant on the type of movement being done at the time. It is important to keep the appointments at the requested interval to optimize movement and keep treatment time as short as possible. Dr Hertzberg will try and use the least number of appointments possible to minimize unneeded visits to the office.


Payment & Office Policies

Cost

The cost of treatment depends on the severity of the patient's problem. You will be able to discuss fees and payment options with our treatment coordinator before treatment begins. We have payment plans to suit different budgets, including a no-down-payment option. We also accept assignment from most insurance plans, and file the necessary papers to the insurance company. We work hard to make orthodontics affordable.


Fees

In an effort to keep orthodontic fees down while maintaining the highest level of professional care, we have established this financial policy:

  • If full payment is made at the onset of treatment, we will offer a fee discount. (If you have insurance, we will offer a discount for payment of your portion of the fee that will not be covered by insurance.)
  • To fit your individual needs, financial arrangements can be made to extend your payments over a period of months.
  • Automatic monthly payments can be made by credit cards or direct withdraw from a checking account.
  • For your convenience, we accept payment by VISA, MASTERCARD, DISCOVER and AMERICAN EXPRESS.
  • In cases of serious delinquency, treatment can be discontinued and fees sent to a collection agency, although we will make every effort to accommodate patients with temporary difficulties.

Insurance

If you have insurance, we will help you to determine the coverage you have available. We ask that you assign your insurance benefit to us. The balance will be arranged for you to pay (see above). Professional care is provided to you, our patient, and not to an insurance company. Thus, the insurance company is responsible to the patient and the patient is responsible to the doctor. We will help in every way we can in filing your claim and handling insurance questions from our office on your behalf.
